PHP is a server side scripting language meaning that all processing for the page is performed on the server before being transmitted to the client.

Who should define this acronym - academics or the fathering author?
      "Pre-Hypertext-Processing" or "Personal Home Page"?
I will side with the author who wrote a scripting language so that he could have a dynamic Personal Home Page.

PHP is a widely-used general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for Web development and can be embedded into HTML. Much of its syntax is borrowed from C, Java and Perl with a couple of unique PHP-specific features thrown in. The goal of the language is to allow web developers to write dynamically generated pages quickly.
